Typographical Name

When you are designing a typographical name/ logo it is important to consider how the colour, thickness and angle of the text is displayed as it impacts how people perceive a person/business.

‘Studies have shown that fonts can evoke specific emotional responses… the choice of font can be a strategic decision that impacts how your brand is perceived

Designs. n.d.

For my typographical logo I wanted the design to be colourless, this is because colours can be used to display different emotions such as red being associated with anger and blue being associated with sadness and I did not want the viewers to be influenced into a different perception of the logo.

The first design is a mix between a handwritten font and a serif font. Using a font that looks handwritten/ cursive gives the viewer the idea of elegance and creativity, this style of font is commonly used for fashion brands and examples of this can be seen in logos such as Alexander Mcqueen, H&M and Yves Saint Laurent, these brands are commonly seen as sophisticated and cutting edge. Similarly, serif fonts are also used in fashion brands and convey the idea of being refined and elegant.

Developing from the first design I decided to change to a simple block style font, the reason for this is because the writing is clear and legible but is still memorable. Having the text link together can be seen in logos such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Under armor. The text linking together allows the logo to seem more fluid and cohesive and creates an easily memorable section.

Both logos imply the same ideas however they can be used for different things. The first logo is more suitable towards physical, luxury products that you could buy – such as perfumes, notebooks etc- as it would stand out on a shelf, whereas the second logo is more suitable for things such as websites and uniforms as the logo can be read more easily.
