Conceptual Logos


Having a conceptual logo / visual metaphor allows the viewer to gain a deeper understanding to a brand/ company without explicitly being told what it is about.
Visual metaphors work because they tap into the power of your inner mind…. you will understand some parts of what is being communicated on a deeper level

For the first logo I took influence from the work I do in Scouts. The colours used for this design is visually appealing as they are complementary to each other on the colour wheel. Yellow, green, and brown are typically used when designing a firefly icon/image, however it also connotes the idea of a forest. To reflect the age group that I work with, the style of art is simple, allowing it to be easily recognisable and memorable.
What makes this design conceptual is the fact that it doesn’t explicitly say my name and then has an image of a firefight. Instead, I have incorporated my name into the design of a firefly with some of the letters standing out more than the other letters, this is to ensure that my name is still visible but the firefly is still the key focal point.
The second logos, designed to challenge the viewer’s brain by forcing it to see things from different angles and look for the letters, hidden within the shapes of the cats. By challenging a viewer’s perspective, it makes the product more memorable as they have to look closely at the design to see the hidden meaning. The background of the design is just a plain simple colour, this is so the detail on some the cats can still be seen and keeps the focal point on the mid section rather than the foreground or background.The colours used were simple – similar to the first design – as I still wanted the design to be readable for all age groups.
