Self-portrait (Photoshop)

Adobe photoshop is an application that is good for editing images used for posters, billboards and logos. Photoshop gives users the opportunity to create unique photos with its editing features, allowing the designs to stand out and become something more than just an image.

Peek 2023

For the first design, I edited out the background on the photo of my face and then created a new layer and made it a clipping mask with all the photos I have taken throughout 2023. The concept for this self-portait is to show how photography is a key part of my life and how taking photos becomes a physical memory that I can store away.  

To make the portrait more dynamic, I made the picture of me black and white and made the background black, I kept the images in colour as some pictures are more vibrant than others, this creates the idea of lights flickering between different colours.  

For the second design I incorporated a fire that was made at a scout camp. I copied over the photo of me, however because the layer was non-destructive I was able to remove the black and white adjustments. I adjusted the saturation so the hair was similar to the brightness of the fire- allowing the image to seem more cohesive.  

When the background is black, the images all blend together, making the portrait hard to view. To prevent this I changed the background to white, allowing a contrast between the lightness of the background and the darkness of the fire.
