Typography (Post 5)

Typography is an important aspect to consider when designing a website or an app. Typography impacts how a user will view the product and if the font does not match the theme of the site/ app then it will negatively impact the interactivity for the site or app.
Typography is a decorative element, especially on websites
(Dribbble, n.d.)
The typography used for the website and app needs to reflect the art style on the site – in this case it is neo-brutalosm- as well as keeping with the theme of the product displayed – for this app/website it would be the fire festival.
When looking for fonts to use for the site, a few fonts that appeared were ‘Public sans’, ‘Mabry Pro’, ‘Lexend Mega’, after looking at each fonts, public sans was better suited for the main paragraph text as the spacing between each character and word is spaced evenly and can easily be read.
Public Sans is narrower, especially in rounded characters like lowercase e to help with reading flow, especially in longer texts.

For neo-brutalistic designs, they use large font sizes for headings. Keeping this in mind when looking at the header fonts, the 3 fonts to choose from are ‘Festiful’, ‘Baktun’ and ‘Groks’.
The first font is ‘Festiful’. Looking at this font, it goes best with bright, solid colours and is eye catching as that style is not seen on apps / websites often. However, the shape of the text looks like it is designed for children for a tv show title.
The second font is ‘Baktun’ has a distinctive style and looks as though it is designed for an event in the forest. Whilst the font is suitable for the targeted age group, if it was used for the website/ app, it would give the idea of a viking festival, rather than focusing on the fact that it is a fire festival.
For the final font, ‘Groks’ is the most suitable header font for the app/ website. The font compliments the neo-brutalistic art style and is engaging as it is not seen often on other products, similarly, the font will be suitable for the targeted age group.
