Non-Profit Organization

The main issue that Non-profit organisations face – especially when it is a new organisation- is that they tend to not have a lot of funding to broadcast their services “Fundraising is unpredictable amid competition for scarce resources, and even when it succeeds, the revenue often comes with strings attached. ” (Luther 2024) By utilizing the web, organizations have been able to reach their audiences and develop creative ways to increase their support.

How the web has helped non-profit organisations

The web has vastly helped non-profit organisations by giving them a platform that has the ability to reach a variety of users across the globe. A web presence means that there is no cost to publicise the organisation – unless you pay for pop ups, push posts etc- and gives viewers 24/7 access to the organisations site, increasing the chance that a viewer donates as they can do it in their own time. Similarly, it also allows the organisation to easily update any information (i.e about, news, contact numbers, location etc) and make it accessible for everyone, it also means the organisation can update any information at any time and anywhere. This would help the organisation -primarily in cost- as they wouldn’t need to print any flyers/posters to hand them out or get them delivered to houses/ businesses.

People trust your organization with an online presence and connect with your mission, especially when it’s transparent with financial reports and success stories. Having a nonprofit website makes you credible and trustworthy to visitors.

(Darji 2023)

Another way that the web has helped organisations is by utilising apps. The national trust is an organisation that is all about protecting historic and green spaces and ensures that the spaces can be accessed by everyone. This platform not only highlights various properties and landscapes that can be visited but also provides information on events, activities, and conservation efforts. An important feature that the app also takes into account is that users may have no internet, when this happens the app will still display locations for users to visit, but it will have limited information. Since its launch, the app has garnered an impressive 2 million downloads and boasts around 250,000 active users each month (LEK Company, n.d.)

Unmute AskHim

The Unmute AskHim campaign, created by the organization Movember, aims to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer, mental health challenges, and suicide prevention. By highlighting the significance of early detection and support for mental health, the campaign aims to break down stigmas and encourage men to seek help. Through impactful messaging and creative content, Unmute AskHim not only raises essential funds for research and support programs but also seeks to empower men to take charge of their health and well-being.

In the Unmute Ask Him videos, viewers initially watch without sound, relying on subtitles that guide them through a specific activity. At the end, a prompt encourages them to turn on the audio and replay the video. This second viewing reveals a different narrative through the speaker’s personal reflections, contrasting with the subtitles. By utilizing the fact that approximately 74% of viewers typically watch videos on mute (Grégoire, 2024), the campaign has achieved significant reach and impact, resonating widely across social media platforms.
